How it works… (Entering into marriage)

You:
Wedding Denmark a kiss

  • Decide whether you wish to get married in Tønder Town Hall or in the Old Town Hall in Ribe, located in the municipalities of Tønder and Esbjerg respectively.

You then contact us (please note that the process may differ slightly between the two municipalities – for further information, see under Documents. Documents Tønder and Documents Ribe).

  • Ensure that a marriage contracted in Denmark will be recognised in your country of residence.
  • Send us all the necessary documents.
  • Wait to be contacted by us – once you hear from us, we will decide on a time for the wedding ceremony.
  • Spend a few days in the municipality of either Ribe or Tønder as relevant during the week in which you wish to be married, all while the paperwork is processed.
  • Bring the documents (or approved copies of these) with you when you come. All documents must be translated by an authorised translator into German, English or Danish if in a different language. The translations alone are not sufficient documentation.
  • Sit back and enjoy the run-up to your wedding, safe in the knowledge that Wedding Denmark will take care of all the arrangements.

We:

  • Contact the relevant municipality to ascertain whether you can get married at the registry office.
  • Once the documents have been inspected and approved, you will be notified.
  • Will will contact you and have a Skype-conversation. We will talk about your wishes and expectations of your wedding and stay in Denmark.

When you receive notification that you may proceed, we will find a week in which the wedding can take place. Together with the relevant town hall, we will choose either a day on which you will need to personally register at the Registry Office. Once you have registered, you will be married within the week. You cannot register without having agreed upon a date. Please note that it takes approximately two weeks to process the paperwork.

  • Handle all the paperwork on site, both with the municipality and any other collaboration partners.
  • Are happy to handle all the wedding preparations for you – please see the sections entitled “What can we do for you” and “Optional Extras”.
  • Meet with you personally on the day that you are required to register in either Ribe or Tønder.
  • Can attend the ceremony if you want us to, and can also arrange for the two mandatory witnesses.
  • Will provide you with personal assistance and guidance so you can enjoy a nice, relaxed run-up to the wedding. We can also arrange a wonderful honeymoon for you in the south of Denmark if required.
